I have 1G Shuffle and a 2G Nano. I find the Nano better suited to listening to audio books, and when I'm in a mood to tinker with my playlist (and am away from my PC or laptop).
And being slimmer, it does slide into tight pockets better. It's my toy of the moment.

But if I'm going to do anything vaguely energetic, I take the Shuffle. I'm clumsy, and find great comfort in the fact that I don't have to worry too much if I drop the Shuffle repeatedly!

Another plus for the Shuffle for me is the ease of setting it on Hold, compared with that fiddly little slide thing on the Nano.

I don't understand how you can think the IPod Cripple a/k/a Shuffle has the slightest advantage over a real IPod. How can you call being unable to see what you are listening to an advantage? I can't see, find the controls on mine without a magnifying glass and I don't think it's convenient at all. The IPod weighs less than my cellphone - so your commment about "too inconvenient to carry" doesn't make any sense either. It looks to me like the sort of thing that Apple is pushing on Kids and old folks who buy for Kids without realizing Children don't like Dead-End toys. They like things that do things. And the shuffle that I had before it went back to the Apple Store was just plumb useless to me.
