No Celine for me thanks
Yahoo! News - Dion's new CD crashing party for some users
Looks like I'm going to have to boycott Celine Dion's new CD. *cough*
Seriously though-- I subscribe to Dan Gillmor's stance:
I'm not a thief. I'm a customer. When you treat me like a thief, I won't be your customer.
It's sad that it's come to this. Sony-- are you listening?
From the article linked above:
Should the consumer try to play Dion's CD on a PC or Macintosh, the computer likely will crash.
Asked about whether this is damaging to the computer, Sony replies:
Sony denied these allegations. "The CD will probably cause a system to crash, but it will not alter anything," the spokeswoman said. "And it won't eject properly, but that's just because the computer has crashed."
Are these guys idiots or what? Say an unsuspecting consumer puts one of these things in their PC and it crashes... no damage done? How about any of the work you were doing at the time? Or corrupt files that will occur from not shutting down the computer properly? I can't wait for these guys to be brought to court in a class action lawsuit. I'm going to be looking very carefully at any CDs I buy from here on out.
