Note to self: install this

Moveable Type Search (from OpenWire) looks nice and I'd rather host my own search rather than rely on a third party service (currently using Atomz). This way the site search index is always up-to-date.

Rio Riot

SONICblue's Rio Riot looks pretty nice. I saw this a week or two ago but didn't care to post about it because at the time they didn't have physical dimension information on the site. 5 3/8" x 3 5/8" x 1 3/8" and 10 oz. (including the battery!). Not bad. Stores 20 GB of MP3/WMA audio. And runs for 10 hours. And it includes a FM tuner. $399.95 MSRP.

It also has a feature called the Rio DJ that basically remembers the songs that you play most often and can create playlists by mixing your favorite songs. Frankly, I'd like something like that for Winamp.

There are just a couple of things that would make this thing perfect. Sure, it could always be smaller and cheaper, but I wish it would allow itself to be used as a generic storage device. I have a lot of music, but not quite 20 GB worth yet. That extra space would be nice for shuttling files to and from the office. And it supports USB, but not USB 2.0. Why didn't they check with me first?

That's nice. Where's the photo?

Clash guitar smash photo the perfect icon shot. This is the web, right? Can't we post a picture about stuff? I'll be glad when the news services can stream attachments.

At least Yahoo provided a hyperlink for David Bowie that takes you directly to their music store. How thoughtful.

Had to dig a bit on Google, but I guess it's this one.

Blog March

Ed Yourdon blogs too. How 'bout that.

Googlewhacking

You're all out of stuff to do? Try your hand at Googlewhacking. Basically the idea is to find a couple of real words that, used together can only be found on one page on the web. Sounds easy?

It's not. I got oooh so close with "serendipitous xerces" (2 hits). (I don't count this one-- granted, it yielded only one hit, but it's because that page is basically a dictionary of words from K-Z.)

If nothing else, this could increase your vocabulary and/or improve your spelling.

It could also lead you to some very strange and seldom-traveled places on the web.

Sadly, once you blog about it, it won't be long before your own blog disqualifies it. Oh well.
