Hacking the Xbox

Hackers, programmers "improve" Xbox - News.com -- an interesting article on the various efforts underway to unlock the Xbox.

One idea the article raised is that someone will eventually extract the Xbox OS so that games can be played on a PC. I can see that happening-- imagine an Xbox bootable CD-ROM that can play games off of a DVD-ROM drive. Of course, it wouldn't be legal, but I doubt that will stop it from being done. The tweaking community sees these things more as challenges, not violations of law.

Personally, I've been looking for a reason to buy an Xbox, but just haven't seen one yet. 'Halo' is nice, but will be available for Windows. 'Gotham Racing' is ok, but I still like GT3. I'll take SSX/SSX Tricky over 'Amped'. I'm waiting for a game that is unique, only available on the Xbox and is impossible to put down. I'll let you know if/when I find it. Hopefully it will be after the Xbox is reduced to $200...
