Arwen's helper

Seth has fed Arwen baby food a few times, but recently he has really wanted to give her food like Cheerios, baby crunchies, bits of his bread, and especially her sippie cup. Seth loves his sippie cup. He’d much rather fill up on milk because it’s quick and mobile. So he is quick to pick up her sippie cup when she drops it in order to hand it back to her. In fact, he insists that he do these things. Before I go to bed I make sure each of them have a cup in the bottom of the fridge door. He gets his and hers and runs to her crib to drop in her milk in the morning.

Borrowing a phrase from Mama

I know I’m too tightly wound. But my children are normal which means they’re noisy. There are lots of sudden noises in our house, sudden screams, sudden yells. The kitchen is the worst. It is like a big bathroom where the smallest noise can hammer through your head. So Seth has had his share of warnings to quiet down.

Today we parked on the street at the elementary school. Walking up this busy street, Seth was scared by a car’s loud muffler. He looked around, already holding my hand of course, and said, “Dat make me nervous.”

2nd child vocabulary and other lessons

It’s strange to me to hear Seth’s new words and not know when he learned them. I feel like I’m missing something. We always knew when Savannah picked up a new word. She had little television at his age, 2 1/2, and didn’t have a big sibling to give her new words. Naturally, I spent a lot more time with her one on one. But it’s nice, and I think the way it was intended, his learning from her. Today he pointed to a small map on a bag of coffee beans. I’ve heard him say “map”, but today when he saw a map of the globe spread flat, he said, “world.”

Savannah watched a safety video at school last week, warning children about strangers. With Seth she has been acting out this scenario. She is the stranger beckoning him. Then she whispers, “Say no, Seth.” He plays his part saying, “No!” with his palm in the air to stop the stranger.
