Movie fiend

In the last week or so, Savannah and Seth have watched a movie almost daily. The other night Brad and I sat down to watch a movie. The THX ad came up, the loud one with the robot banging the logo with a hammer to fix the sound. Seth, whose room shares a wall right by our telelvision, called out, “Can I watch da movie!?”

Words, personality, odds and ends

After he tells me something, he sometimes tacks on the word, “Besides.” for no real reason, which I think is really cute. And when he wants something but isn’t convincing me of it, his way of begging is to say, “I promise. I promise.” He’s not promising anything. It’s simply the way he begs. Also, terribly cute.

He really bows his head and clasps his hands when he prays, very deliberate. And when he does something he thinks is interesting, like putting a whole cracker in his mouth, he says, “Look, Mama. Watch dis.”

He likes to skip now, but he doesn’t change feet. He just leads with his left foot in the front, and only when I’m holding his hand. I guess it gives him balance. He is full of hugs and kisses and not fighting so much these last few days. He was my little shadow today, even when he could’ve been playing with Savannah or watching a movie.

Terr-ee-blay Dos

Seth has had trantrums lately that I’d like to forget about. I regret the last and dread the next. I’ve blogged about it before. Mostly he gives us grief getting him dressed, usually when he’s overtired. Early this morning, before sunrise, he had the whole house awake. Finally at 6:30 I just let all the kids get up. I read to them, tried to motivate them to play instead of watch television. Savannah’s had a stomach bug so I’ve allowed more television. I can’t help but think that’s part of his problem. In the past, Savannah has also given me more problems after a lot of television. There have been villains also in what they’re watching, so I’ve wondered if he’s had some nightmares that cause him fear of his bed or room. We will probably never know. The terrible twos are probably just about wanting control and not getting it.

On the brighter side, he told me a few days ago that he wouldn’t fight me when I change his diaper and clothes. He jokingly said he would just “run away.” Since then, he has started to fight me and I reminded him he said he wouldn’t fight me anymore. It has helped, which says a lot about how much he remembers from day to day. When he gets into trouble he shows a tender heart. He can turn right around and show great affection.

Ladies' Man?

When we went to Disneyland at New Year’s, one little event stands out in my mind. We were nearing the end of our second day, so it had just gotten dark. We got to meet Sleeping Beauty outside the big castle. She was not in a costume but had princess dress, hair, and make-up. Everything was very pretty with the seasonal lights and the castle all lit up. Seth saw Sleeping Beauty and said “Hewwo, I Sesh.” (Hello, I’m Seth.) Then we stood in line to get their picture taken with her. He went up and hugged her and talked to her, probably about Spiderman or Buzz Lightyear, but I could tell that she was a different sort of stranger to him. He was eager to meet her. It was as if he knew she was pretty.

He has met his first love

Spiderman. We got him a fleece blanket with Spiderman on it. It went well with his blow up bed (the air mattresses we used our first week in CA before our things arrived.) Then a Spiderman poster followed for his bare walls. Putting that alongside the spidey underwear and the Spiderman/Wolverine/Hulk pajamas makes a nice little collection. He is Little Spiderman, a little super hero.
