Potty training

It’s been about a month since he first tinkled on the potty. Right now it is just a fun thing to do and another reason to say “hawaaay!” (hooray). We’ve been flushing the contents of his diapers to say bye bye. When we catch him having a movement, we say, “Let’s go poop on the potty.” Usually we’re too late and just flush to show him where it’s supposed to go, but he always knows what we mean and takes off to the potty. One time 2 weeks ago, he was actually able to finish the job on the potty.

It was a good step in training, but more importantly, the day after he finished on the potty, he pooped in his diaper, came to get me and went straight to the potty! I was so proud because the association had been made. Then I got to feeling bad the stomach bug and vertigo and didn’t encourage the potty at all.

When we’re no longer reeling from the blow of baby #3, we’ll potty train more regularly, not give him water right before bed, sit him on the pot 20 minutes after drinking, cotton pants and plastic covers, etc. Right now it’s still fun :)

Hi. I had a similar situation with my son. He had no problem peeing on the potty but flat out refused to poop. I saw Dr. Phil's show about potty training and he recommended a drink & wet doll that you have your child teach to use the potty. After the doll is praised and got a huge potty party (not to mention a call from his Superhero), my son decided that he should use the potty for pooping as well! It worked perfectly! I don't know why I didn't think of it on my own. Anyway, I found an anatomically correct drink & wet doll that has a water resivore at http://www.pottytrainingdolls.com if anyone else is interested.
