Green beans, baby lima and chicken 'n' gravy

Seth’s been throwing up tonight. Just came on out of the blue. After he threw up, I remembered overhearing someone say she’d had a 24 hour thing. I feel guilty for being frustrated. It’s not even the vomit itself that bothers me but the scrambling to clean it up. I told Brad, at least Seth isn’t throwing up again while I’m still cleaning up the last episode. Times like these I’m glad we have wood floors.

The second time, Seth knew what was coming. He came to me fussing and fiddling with his mouth with his fingers. He recognized the feeling and tried to tell me. By the third and fourth time, I had caught on. He is asleep now. I actually rocked him to sleep, and he stayed asleep, for the first time in quite a long time. The times that I’ve rocked him, he has woken up immediately, stood up, and objected to being left. Usually he just snuggles down after some songs, even reaching for his crib. But I knew tonight would be different, and I don’t like to hear him cry when he’s sick.

New stuff

He now knows “oka” (fried okra), one of his favorites. When I say let’s get a book, he says “a buuu”, instead of just saying book.

He runs from corner to corner with his mouth open and makes vocal noise to hear his voice rattle with his steps.

He enjoys trying to spread blankets, to watch tv on his belly or to play bed and “ni-ni”.

He has sat on the potty a few times and seems to enjoy being like a big boy. Nothing has happened, but we have hope that his independent nature will make this milestone an easy one for everybody. I also empty his dirty diapers into the toilet so he can say bye bye and learn that’s where that stuff is supposed to go.

First Tivo show

I still don’t know if he pushed random buttons, but he got his first Tivo show today. His word for the remote is a cross between “mo” and “moo”. That’s what he said when he handed it to me. I thanked him and set it beside me without getting him a cartoon. Then I looked up a couple of minutes later and he was watching Little Bear. By the time it finished, Daddy had gotten him ready for bed and I was getting up to take him upstairs. Little Bear’s closing music came up, and he started again saying remote and picked it up, ready to get another show.

Sensitive little guy

I thought maybe he was just turning on the charm, but I think he’s just a really sensitive little guy. I think it’s a good thing. Savannah scolded him for trying to put a Scrabble piece in his mouth, and he started crying.

A few times here lately, I have either taken something away from him or walked past him without giving him more attention. He has very slowly puckered his face into a cry before dropping his head into his hands and wailing.

What he's up to

Savannah recently named herself Kiki. It’s what she likes to be called when she’s pretending to be a baby. Well, Seth says something that sounds like Kiki only the k is soft. He says it when I refer to her as sister, so we’ll see what it turns out to be.

He’s really into pulling doors shut from the outside. He hangs on to the knob and backs up on his tippy toes.

Today the kiddies stayed with some friends. He greeted Mr. Jim by pointing to his own shirt which was red. Mr. Jim’s shirt was also red. Then Mr. Jim pointed out that they were both wearing khaki slacks. Then Seth did a little jig.

He says “bonk” when he hits his head, “boo boo” when he gets a scrape, “Ah oh” when he makes a mistake, and just today we noticed he said, “Oh,” when Brad called him to sit back down to put on his shoes.

And right now, Brad and I are eating popcorn, and Seth has not yet noticed :)

Parking lots

When we get out of the van, I always put Seth down to so he can walk. I'm sure it's easier on me, and once he got a taste for it, like most, he wants to walk outside whenever he can. Savannah has been holding his other hand when we walk across parking lots. She likes to skip and jump along, and he tries the best he can to emulate her. His jump amounts to jumping into a run or a shuffle. It makes him very happy which spreads to her too. So it's really cute to hear them crossing parking lots and laughing and giggling together.
