The 100th day of school
Savannah has an oral sharing assignment about every 6 weeks. Today, for the 100th day of school, she was supposed to bring a collection of 100 things, example, 100 buttons or 100 paper clips fastened to a poster board. Then they have to tell the class about what they collected.
We realized that what she had planned wasn’t going to work out, and we’d let too much time go by to start over last night. I told her to explain this to her teacher and ask for more time. Well, they go to bed with flash lights and before falling asleep she penciled 100 dots on a little notebook page. When she showed me this morning I didn’t really approve because I knew what kind of displays the teacher wanted. So I told her that 10 rows of 10 equals 100. She wrote 10 × 10 = 100. I hope this passes. A lot of the assignment is about clear, loud speaking and eye contact, so I’m hoping the multiplication added a little zing. She once impressed her teacher with understanding a negative number. Brownie points help. I’ll post later how it went over.
