Our entrepreneur

This summer she started a library out of our house, believing that people would come here and check out the library books she'd written. I told her that strangers would not be coming in our house like that. In August she got out some of the fabric I'd given her and cut out scarves. She tied about 10 of them to the dining room chairs. Then she wrote out advertisements. (She called them newspapers.) We handed them out to our neighbors and friends. We gave one scarf to a friend; our neighbor bought two, and I bought two. She gave the rest to friends at school and her kindergarten teacher (from last year.)

I told people (jokingly) that Savannah has a new store every month. So before the scarves were gone she said she had to get rid of them all by September because she was going to open a jewelry shop. Can you guess what she's been working on? She has made 4 bracelets and 2 necklaces, using a bead kit someone gave her for her birthday. Sometimes she uses patterns with the beads; sometimes it's random.

She wrote her "advertisements" out this evening. (She no longer calls them newspapers.) She handed some out to two of my girlfriends, and will probably hand out more at school tomorrow.

She really knows what she's doing. She is figuring it out as she goes, learning from each store she opens. It was her idea to hand out the the "newspapers." She seemed to know from the beginning that she had to build up her stock, the books, the scarves, and now the jewelry. I explained to her yesterday how a business is opened. Money is either saved or borrowed from the bank, supplies and stock are bought, a building is rented, a sign is bought. (Then I explained that there are businesses that make signs.)

She already knows what her October business will be. But that's a surprise. You'll have to come back to see how that goes!
