Help for us both
She took her first swimming lesson Thursday afternoon. To avoid the anticipation, I didn't tell her until I picked her up from kindergarten. In the next 1 1/2 hours she still asked about 3 times when we were leaving. Like a lot of other times, I told her we'd leave in about 3 cartoons. That's how I help her gage time.
She declared she'd be in the little pool, not the big pool. The big pool seemed a bit scary to her. I just agreed because I didn't know if there was a little pool or not. When we walked into the swimming area, she started looking worried when she saw no kiddie pool. But all it took to ease her into it was seeing her peers and especially the 3 year olds hopping into the water. It was only about 2 feet deep anyway. She took her turns with the instructor, kicking in a lap, blowing out her nose into the water. It was fun. Next time, she wants to use the shower afterward. I'm still excited for her.
My mother passed on to me her fear of wasps and water. I have tried to muffle this passing to her grandchildren. It still comes through though. Savannah's swimming lessons are helping us both.
