Present for Mama

She wrapped me a present probably 3 weeks ago. She was dying to show me the wrapped present, but I said no, you need to wait because I knew she would be tempted to give hints and eventually tell me what it was or even unwrap it for me. It was hard for her, then on the morning of my birthday, she brought me my present. (She had marked the 16th on the calendar she'd made in class.) She wrapped it herself in some fabric and ribbon I'd given her. It was a book, My Little Prayers. She said she wanted to give me one of her Bible books because she had so many. I keep it on my bedside table.

Possible Valentine's tradition

I took them to Safeway to choose 10 pieces of candy each from the Brach's bulk candy. They were ecstatic: the chewies, the gummies, the chocolates. Savannah even wanted me to choose some for myself. I passed, but I'll get some with them next year because she likes to see me get something when she's getting something.

Then they picked out small balloons, the kind on a stick. We went to the library for story time and new books. After lunch and Finding Nemo, Savannah and I made peanut butter cookies to surprise Daddy with. Then Savannah drew pictures on the back of a post card for him.

When she grows up

Savannah and I saw someone walking several dogs the other day. I explained to her that some people need their dogs walked while they're at work, so they hire a dog walker. She decided then that she wanted to be a dog walker. That seemed fun. Then I told her that when the dog poops, you'll have to scoop it up off the sidewalk and throw it away. She thought about that awhile and told me tonight that she wants to be an artist.

Hungry and growing

One day recently, Savannah came into our room at 5 a.m., very much awake. My suggestion to go back to bed was "boring" to her. She wanted food, and when I tried to put breakfast off til later, she tried harder to convince me. She said, "My stomach does the cha cha when I'm hungry."
