April 30

Watching British children's television, laundry, fighting the urge to go out cause that's what I really like. But the girl, at 3 1/2, is getting spoiled on going. She has to be able to stay home too.

I stayed home a lot when I was little, no playdates either. The extreme opposite wasn't good either. I've realized lately that's why I got into so many kindergarten fights. I didn't always win either, esp. against the boys.

I could see her getting into some rumbles. I hope not though. The fights I got into never got back to Mom, so I didn't get any lessons on tattling vs. running vs. hitting back. I think a combination of defending and telling may be the best way to go.

Too soon to worry about this? We're looking into preschools. It's exciting though cause we know she'll love it. We went to the park Monday. She knew we weren't meeting any of her friends there and asked who would she play with. I told her she'd make a friend there at the park which she did.

Eat when you're hungry; stop when you're full.

Savannah eats what she likes, and like most children, stops eating as soon as she's no longer hungry. Unfortunately, that often means stopping too soon, and then she's hungry at inconvenient times. So I "encourage," sometimes feeding her myself which she has come to depend on, especially seeing me feed Seth. Yesterday, I was trying to feed those two and myself at the same time.

She eats some of her food yesterday and, arching her back, says, "I'm done. Look, my belly's touchin' the table."

Hot pink scarf

Today she handed me a scarf, actually a fuzzy stole, and said to me, "Tie me a circle with a line on the end, like a cowboy uses." So I did what she described, and I got lassoed!

Thank you Daddy!

Mamas and Daddies are just not the same. She asks for me at night, but Brad is the one who can get her calmed down enough to get her back into her own bed. He doesn't even have to lie down with her.

We had let her into our bed when she grew too big for her "little bed" which was a settee cushion beside our bed. But she was all over the place, head at the end of the bed, feet in our faces. I was worried Seth would get kicked. I made up my mind to just keep him in his crib, so it wouldn't be sooo crowded. Still, it was too tight a squeeze for the three of us. The family bed is great for some people, but I woke up cramped and stiff every morning.

Two nights, she has gone back to sleep in her own bed after Brad has calmed her down. I'm really proud of him. He thinks it's funny when I quiz him the next morning about how he accomplished it.

It's just like how dads come home with energy to play some and moms are busy with the kitchen and pushing things toward bedtime. In the middle of the night, I don't have the energy to work with her, so I let her crawl into our bed, or get her into her bed and don't spend the time she really needs to calm down. So thank you Daddy!

Dora is everywhere!

We caught Dora the Explorer for the first time in Spanish today! Of course it makes sense there'd be one. Savannah heard the voices and said, "Why they talkin' funny?" But when the channel was changed, she really objected and wanted to watch it. Apparently, it teaches some English words to Spanish speaking children, cause I heard, "I love you. I love you."

"Be like a Mama"

She wants to "be like a Mama." But she doesn't like pigtails cause I'm not gentle enough. I think *some* of her protests are just noise. But I had pigtails in today, so she said she'd let me put them in for church/Bible study tomorrow night when I told her I'd be gentle. She's soooo cute in pigtails. Have to get a pitcher.

Feeling better

Savannah is getting over a stomach bug. She's good today, was very eager to go somewhere, being home for two days. Sad that she missed worship Sunday. In the dark hours Sunday morning, she more potty trouble. It was a good call to stay home cause just about the time we should've pulled into the church parking lot, she lost something I didn't even recognize all over our comforter.

So today we went to the bank, then Starbucks, Stew's farm (cows and chickens mostly) across the street and Costco (like Sam's.)

When we got home it was probably 80 degrees or approaching that. We planted the violets my last secret sister gave me at the reveal brunch. She likes digging holes and got to water them, always eager to help.

Dora

When we run errands, Savannah has to know where all we're going when we set out. We were going out recently, I thought, to three places until I remembered a fourth place. When I told her this, she immediately disagreed.

Referring to one of her few favorite cartoons, "But Dora only goes to three places."

I told her since we were only picking up paint swatches at the paint store, that was like how swiper takes Dora's things and throws them far away for her to find. She accepted that.

Update

Savannah comes to bed with us almost everynight. Sometimes she comes into the bed so close to daybreak that she doesn't go back to sleep, like this morning. She is napping now because of that. She's also been complaining of a tummy problem.

We were taking turns on getting her to bed. I decided recently to do her bedtime every night in the hopes that she'll feel more secure since she always asks for me at bedtime anyway. So we are obliging her. She had a night terror again two or three nights ago. I made her go to the potty, and like it's happened in the past, she definitely had to go. Maybe she's not waking up enough to know what to do, just cries, can't communicate.

She took a nap!

A year ago, when I was big and pregnant, the only way Savannah took a nap, was if she fell asleep on the way home from errands. She fell asleep today. I carried her up the stairs just like I used to, only her legs hanging a lot further down than they used to. She is such a big kid now! I have to remind myself that a year or two from now, 3 1/2 will be small.
