180

I've changed my mind. The threat of being in trouble has not worked. She still cried for me to come back. She'll settle for Daddy too, although not without some persistence on his part.

I lie down with her now. Sometimes I leave, telling her I'll come back after feeding Seth or whatever and that I'd like her to be asleep when I get back. Last night I stayed and got a 30 minute nap.

Although I keep thinking she should be able to go to sleep on her own, she does have a new little brother, making everything change for everybody. Plus, she's really sweet at bedtime (that is, now that I've indulged her.) She's cuddly, and silly. She turns into sleeping position and gets quiet when I tell her.

She wakes up every night for one reason or another. She's been getting chilly and her nose runny. I hope the extra blanket helps. For three nights, she's tried to get in bed with us in the middle of the night. Fortunately, she's too sleepy to argue and goes back to her bed. Some mothers would probably take the infant with her and nurse him in the toddlers bed. But I really like my space :)

After a Sunday lunch

Driving home,

-Brad asks, "Is she asleep?"
-Me, "Yeah." Music playing, "Now we can party."
-Savannah's eyes pop open and her head pops up, "Party?" Immediately goes back to sleep.

Once we're home,

-Brad, opening Savannah's door, says to her, "Party."
-She's awake again.

Bedtime not so dreadful

We finally let her cry it out, this business of "I gotta go potty." until we say it's ok. The next night she started up again, but it didn't last. She just got up and went, although she'd just been. So it worked. She understands now that if she needs to go, she doesn't have to ask. She just goes. There's still a lot of confusion in the middle of the night when she's not fully awake.

The real issue has always really been about getting more attention and staying up later. She recently started saying very pitifully, "I need you." which just took the place of "I gotta go potty." So three nights ago she ran back and forth from the stairs to her room for two hours. I finally went up, not because I was giving in, but to tell her that if she didn't stop, she'd be in trouble. She went to sleep, naturally, because she'd gotten me up there one more time. That usually works.

The real test was the next night. I repeated the threat. I was not angry but very matter of fact. She believed me. It was so nice to give her a way out of it. She didn't wanna be in trouble. I could tell, so I said just don't do it Savannah. I hope she remembers that when she's older. If she doesn't want to suffer God's consequences, don't make those mistakes. She started up when I left but quickly stopped.

She didn't even get back up to run to the potty. The next night I repeated the threat, and again, she went right off to sleep. Each morning I've told her how proud I am of her that she went to sleep so well.

"Ca"

Savannah has come up with her own prefix. For exampoe, banana is now ca-bana. Don't know what it means or where it came from. I can only assume that she does.

One night recently as she was taking her turn brushing her teeth, she said , "Toothpaste is cassert (dessert.)" :)

She was temporarily suspended from having her own turn brushing because she wasn't spitting.
