Our girl

For going on a year we've occassionally told Savannah that she's our little girl. She then objected to say that she's a baby. Sometimes she would agree that she was our baby girl. Not sure what possessed her but she finally said last night to me and Brad that she is a girl. Just in the nick of time....

Rough night

Savannah cried out about 6 times last night, unless I lost count, with nighmares. She mostly dreamed about bees, saying she could see them in her room. (There were a few bees by the kiddie swings at the park.) After the fourth time I went in there, I told her she could get in the bed with us.

After much squirming and flopping, I made her go back to her own bed. Once settled in and dozing, she woke up talking about a storm. I then turned on her butterfly night light. The last time I went in, she talked about a spider.

She was never hysterical or very scared, kind of whiny really. I finally told her to sing to herself or count which has never seemed to work well before. I lay in bed hearing her high, monotone singing. It was really cute. She didn't wake up til I went in at almost 9 a.m.

I actually had the foresight to set the alarm because I knew that on little sleep, my usual alarm, Savannah, wouldn't wake up at her usual time. But the clock alarm didn't go off. We got ready in a hurry with several things to remember to take to the church building. Once I got her dressed, I stood up, creating a leg cramp in each calf! It wasn't unbearable, although the cramps are kind of still there. I'm in a much better mood than I was this morning! I taught the children in Bible Hour, and that seems to pick me up.

A park day

A friend of mine in Missouri said that when her boys were little, if they asked to go to the park, she'd always try to take them, stop doing dishes or whatever. I think about that every now and then. If you don't want to have regrets about having fun with your children, think about it while they're little.

Well this morning I was the one who thought it was a good idea to go to the park. After my chiropractic appointment, we went to a nice park that we've been to a couple of times. A cool 71 degrees, it looked a little like rain although it never did. We made new friends, Emma, 4, and her mother Liz. Liz had a really nice haircut, so, looking for a hairdresser, I asked her who did her hair. Turns out she does it herself. She does color treatments too. I asked how much she charges and got her number. The girls hit it off, so we'll have to do a playdate at the same time. We were at the park nearly two hours, so I just put Savannah down for a nap knowing she'll be tired.

Sweet things

Tonight I helped Savannah put a TinkerToy swing set back together. She said, "Thank you, Mama."

I said, "You're welcome, Savannah."

"You best Mama ever I seen."

Animals crackers

In one of her "Once upon a time" stories today, Savannah said something about having "...animals crackers. No, animal crackers, not animals crackers, animal crackers." Very cute and very well pronounced.

Grooming the kitty cats

We had to stop Savannah from using her hairbrush on the cats tonight. Obviously I didn't want their hair in her brush. Brad laughed and said they'd be bald in two days; then they'd really run from her :)

Once upon a time

Savannah's telling the sweetest simple stories. "Once upon a time..." She talks about eating pie, playing, a little girl getting sick and her mother helping her and making her feel better, getting up in the morning to jump on Mama and Daddy's bed, Dee End!

Never got her popsicle :(

In trying to get Savannah to eat at least one vegetable, I tell her she'll get the popsicle she so desparately begs for if she eats one little carrot stick. I've learned to go about this casually.

Today she said she wanted a popsicle; I'd lost count of how many times. (The same little carrot stick sat on her plate from lunch. She had already finished her chicken and had some yogurt as well.) So I responded to her request, "There's a carrot stick in there with your name on it." She gave her little gasp when she finds something interesting or thinks she's on to something, and I knew she took me literally. It was so cute. She turned from my bedroom where I was hanging pictures and scurried to the kitchen. I called out that it was just pretend cause I didn't know what she expected to find and didn't want her to be disappointed.

She came back with a little shred of paper. ??? I'm still too amused to remember what I said then.

Her 3rd VBS

For four days this week I took Savannah to VBS and she said she didn't want to go to her class. She went anyway, sometimes crying, although not for long. I was group leader for the 5/6 year olds. By Wednesday, she was happy to see her teacher. By the fifth day, this morning, she was asking for her class. Tonight, at the end-of-the-week VBS celebration, we were on our way out after about 1 1/2 hours of songs, cookies and slide show..., she said it was time to go to class now.

It's fun to watch her have such a great time, with her goodie bag and her "Wise man built his house" song. I couldn't see her on stage from where I was sitting, but I can imagine, and Kelly said she was really cute up there. Somebody got video I'm sure.

Lights out

We lost power last night around 6:15. When that happens, we enjoy going out to dinner, (to another part of town) but Brad wasn't home yet. We read books by the sunlight left and worked a puzzle. Soon, there wasn't enough light to do much else.

When it first happened, Savannah thought she should try several light switches. Each time, I re-explained to her that the electricity went out and someone had to fix it on the roads outside. She wanted a marshmallow but didn't want it cooked (on the stove-top.) I explained again that we couldn't use the stove anyway when the lights go out and that the refrigerator door should stay closed to keep everything cold. Brad got home as it was getting too dark to do much, so we all went to Uno's for pizza. They were back on by the time we got home.

This morning after waking up, she came into my room and said the lights were fixed. I realized I'd heard her switch on her lamp after she climbed out of bed and thought it was funny that it was the first thing she thought of. Later she said now that they were fixed, we could do a lot of things :)

Peers

I guess I should blog the not so cute things that Savannah does as well as the endearing.

She's a different person after she's been around peers. Lately, we've had a lot more playdates because it's summer, and her older friends are out of school. The more she's around all these different children, the more belligerent she can be, telling us no, throwing mini fits. So far it's been controllable, but just enough of a little battle to make us wonder if we should stay in more.
