More mouse action

Today Savannah wanted to play her computer games and hopped up in the chair to play. I noticed though that the window that usually was open with the icons for her games (a while back she picked up how to double-click the icons to start the game itself) was closed.

To my surprise, she moved the mouse to the 'Games' folder icon on the desktop, double-clicked it and then double-clicked the icon for the game she wanted to play.

Now, Georgia and I have never instructed her on how to do this-- Georgia thinks she must have learned it through observation. Amazing.

"Cake"

Savannah's getting more and more into the pretend games. She likes to "serve" me cake with syrup and ketchup. I pretended to gobble it up, and she said, "You go' choke." So I told her I'd eat slowly. She gave cake to Pooh and his friends too.

Friends are moving

We had to say goodbye to some friends today, goin' back to Texas. Their daughter, Sophie, is crazy about Savannah, and I'm sure we'll keep up with pictures and letters.

Savannah has no concept of their moving to Texas or even what Texas is. In fact she might ask about Sophie a few days from now or she might not. Savannah's first name was almost Sophie.

New vanity

One of the last few touches to Savannah's room was a mirror I wanted to hang on her closet door. (After painting one mirror the wrong color then breaking it, I bought another one, painted it the wrong color, let it sit in a corner of the dining room for a while then finally painted it the correct color.)

I hung it on her closet door, told her she could see herself now and left the room. When I saw the mirror again, it had a big smooch print about the height of Savannah's mouth.

Value of a Dollar

We've been telling Savannah that once she gets enough money in her piggy bank, she can take the money and buy something for herself or a present for a friend.

Tonight at bedtime she said, "I 'ake up, I go bank, buy Blue book (Blue's Clues) and pages."

Click-n-Drag

As of this morning, Savannah figured out clicking and dragging. She was playing one of the programs (on her own) that used it and did it by accident I think-- she wasn't instructed on how to do it. She later repeated it two or three times purposefully.

Pretend

Her first game of pretend that I ever noticed was a year ago or more when she placed a cup on her head and called it a hat. Now she has conversations with her baby. They usually reflect mother/baby conversations we have involving discipline. She also likes to assign names to her blocks and other toys, chairs, etc. Of course they're the names of all her friends and family.

A little Arkansas

Savannah's picked up another one of my expressions, calling us, "Big ole Daddy" and "Big ole Mama." Her velvety animal rug is a "Big ole tiger."

Goin' to work

Sitting in Daddy's swivel chair facing away from his computer, "I can't talk guys. I have to work." She puts on his head phones and turns toward the computer.

Mouse Milestone

Savannah learned to use a mouse today! She's played with one a few months ago, but today was the first time she really had control of it. We bought some preschool educational games for her last night and today she woke up asking to use the 'pewter'. All of the games require some use of the mouse or keyboard (her previous games for the most part just had her hit any key to interact).

I demonstrated how it worked and once I slowed the mouse speed down a bit, she was able to click on buttons and objects on command.

Now, I have to be more careful to password protect the computers... :)

Home Depot orange

The other day, Savannah saw the Home Depot name on a card in my purse and said, "Home Depot." Can you tell where we go a lot?

Reading me

When I read books to Savannah, I occasionally make comments such as, "That chick was really hungry." She knows that my comments are separate from what I'm reading, that they're not in the book, because she always quietly says, "Uh, HUH." but she doesn't do that when I'm reading. No, she can't read yet, but she is hearing the difference in my voice.

Gifts

Savnnah's realizing that everything is a gift to her (Anyway, she can't buy for herself yet.) We remind her of whoever gave her something, so she reminds us every now and then, holding up a toy saying, So and So "gave 'dis for me."

Sprouting overnight

As of June 5th, Savannah can reach all the light switches!

Didn't have to say anything

Savannah knows by now that I don't like loud, sudden noises. Yesterday when she dumped her plastic play dough cookie cutter toys out on the hallway floor, I didn't say anything at all. (Although I definitely noticed it.) She said, "Sorry Mama. That was really loud." I calmly agreed.

This morning she dragged the box of toys out from under the bed and said as she was slowly emptying the box, "I be really quiet." After she quietly emptied the box upside down, she said, "That not loud, Mama."

I was lying on the bed out of breath from the stairs, and I never had to say anything, except, "Good job."

Not yet 3

Today as I wrapped a couple of presents, Savannah sat in her room "getting dressed." She came into the dining room saying, "I'm goin' to 'cool (school). I'm go' miss you."

Savannah has started to finish my sentences.
